Of course you would say, ‘That’s her job to look gorgeous. ’. Well, it would partially be true. Sarah had been a fashion director at the Asia-based fashion retailer Lane Crawford for 21 years. Then, in 2015, she became the Vice President of Global Buying at Yoox Net-а-Porter Group, the famous Italian multi-brand online retailer. In 2017 she resigned and now she helps to transform three brands of The Collected Group — Joie, Equipment, and Current/Elliott — into something more sharp, more up-to-dated, more recognizable. And she does succeeds in doing so.
But would she be so good at selecting truly stylish, trendy and elegant clothes for both men and women if she didn’t have such impeccable taste? Not really. And here is the proof – just look at this seemingly simple but still quite elaborate casual outfit.
Sarah Rutson’s fashion career
Sarah is British. She started her way in the fashion industry at Marks & Spencer. That’s what she recently wrote what it was like:
My first official pay check #1984 . I was still studying at school and worked late night Thursday’s , Friday’s and all day Saturday for a few $ an hour as a sales girl in a hideous nylon uniform in Marks & Spencer kensington high street London . This was the start of my career in fashion ……. !!! with this pay check I bought a pair of red suede pixi boots with punk buckles from kensington market and a black / white stripe mohair oversized sweater.
Buying has always been her forte. But her impeccable taste and skill of selecting lots of different clothes that would go together are not the only Sarah’s devices.
This is precisely why, working at the multibrand fashion store, Sarah Rutson is happy to have an opportunity to select absolutely different clothes – and there could be plenty of them. She can satisfy all tastes and offer something individual and inimitable. This is the key to her success.
Sarah Rutson also values individuality and uniqueness, the ability to stand apart from others. Despite the fact that her looks are always elegant and fashionistas try to copy her style, Sarah Rutson still prefers to wear unusual combinations.
Sarah Rutson’s style tips
Sarah Rutson is a frequent guest at fashion shows and fashion weeks in Milan, Paris, London, etc. You can always see her sitting in the front row, rapt in watching new designer collections. However, Sarah personally prefers simpler and more comfortable clothes.
But have you ever seen Sarah Rutson dressed sloppy? Definitely, not. Whatever she is wearing, even when she goes shopping to a round-the-corner grocery store, it may serve as an excellent example of what a woman over 40 should wear. She is never going to screw up her perfect outfit! Check out Sarah’s street look:
The style of a middle-aged woman created by Sarah Rutson is literally perfect. But dividing it into smaller pieces, you can’t see anything extraordinary: buff military-style trousers, white blouses and jackets. Golden accessories and peep toe platform shoes of the same colour are a good match for the entire look.
Indeed, most of the clothes in Sarah’s wardrobe are of dark natural colours while all the combinations are casual rather than fancy.
However, Sarah Rutson doesn’t avoid bright colours and details, but they still don’t strike the eye. They just help the entire outfit look complete.
Print mixing is another Sarah’s fashion trick, though she never goes too far with it.
Sarah Rutson’s passion for shoes is actually a well-known thing. You can rarely see this tall slim blonde without high heels. Indeed, the style of women over 40 necessarily implies quality and elegant shoes – which is obvious when you look at Sarah’s feet in famous brand shoes.
By the way, being an experienced global buyer, Sarah admits: ‘Believe me, I don’t spend a fortune on clothes. And this fact makes it even more exciting, when people admire my style. Even the brand clothes I have in my wardrobe rarely come from the latest collections.’
And, looking at the outfits of this elegant blonde, you can easily believe it. A white sleeveless shirt and a black skirt are the items which everyone has in their wardrobes. Just add some bright details like massive or unusual accessories, and no one will really care about the price of the clothes you are wearing.
