Menswear Trends SS 2017 Report: Be Freaky or Go Home

Meanswear Trends SS 2017

How are the stylish-that-be going to be dressed in the coming spring-summer season? We do know the answer to this question. Here are the chief SS 2017 menswear trends.

Menswear Fashion Trends Spring-Summer 2017

Shocking and eccentric behavior are in. These are the means for fashion designers to go beyond routine and re-discover the world from a different perspective. These art-movements, however, are still agued about by fine art experts. Some argue these are “non-esthetic and un-artistic responses”. Others, including Filippo Marinetti (a writer, poet, and futurism pioneer) claim that “No more masterpieces without an aggressive character [associated with the epatage]”.

As a result, the runways of NY, Milan, London, and Paris featured extremely weird and ridiculous looks. So, if you are ignorant that Comme des Garçons Homme Plus SS 2017 collection (pictured in the middle) is a modernized Hans Christian Andersen’s The Emperor’s New Clothes with its chief message The Emperor has no clothes! and you meet that guy wearing such outfit, you will most likely suspect him of breaking the nut hospital.

We‘re not going to either attack or praise such fits. But here is a reminder: trends are born in streets, and fashion designers, not being able to beat the movement, are trying to lead it.

Steve Jobs serves as an excellent example here. He would wear a polo-neck and jeans, but made a history as a brilliant entrepreneur, software engineer, and designer. We are not doing that, as we’re strong believers that everyone takes the way of their own. Besides, an attempt to shock people around with the way you dress, is, perhaps, the least threatening thing of those happening in the world today. So we side epatage.

Still, we did manage to find a needle in a haystack pick most wearable looks you can add to your Spring & Summer 2017 wardrobe, so hold on and don’t close the tab yet.

Oversize and 1990s Style in Menswear Spring-Summer 2017: Fits like a really huge glove

This trend is the biggest riser as most of the looks in practically every collection emerge as the combination of these two integrated styles.

We sometimes got an impression that young men’s wide-leg trousers are about chest high. It didn’t look intimidating though. We realized it was just an optical illusion.

The political situation in the world and hot-button issue of immigration and immigrants in Europe (when SS 2017 runway shows were on, Trump hadn’t been the American President yet) didn’t fail to be reflected in fashion, too. Travelling, pilgrimage, and wandering with all those attributes necessary for such movement (literally saying) – suitcases, trunks, and backpacks – were the keynotes of most menswear collections.

Fancy Shades of Spring-Summer 2017 Menswear

Creamy Shades in Menswear

As a rule, Spring-Summer collections suggest to the fancy and the successful that they don white robes and preach, however SS 2017 is an exception here. The many shades of cream are in favor this SS 2017 season, have a look at the photos:

Yellow in SS 2017 Menswear Collections

Yellow shade was detected in 2017 Hermès, Alexander McQueen and Gucci collections. To be utterly honest, SS 2017 Gucci Men’s Collection is stylistically pretty similar to Gucci last-year Women’s collection, which, by the way, enjoyed a tremendous commercial success.

Purple shades in Menswear in Spring and Summer 2017

Another most common shade in Men’s fashion shows was purple. Bold and brave? Well, yes. But fortune favours the brave, doesn’t it?

Even though the style of the young man in the middle picture (Marcelo Burlon County of Milan collection) could be referred to as urban white trash style (or paying tribute to post-Soviet terms gopnik style), the other two prove purple to be perfectly suitable for men’s spring-summer wardrobe.

Checks

Tartan and other checks is a major SS 2017 menswear trend. It was widely observed in many Men’s collection, including Fasetasm, Gucci, Maison Margiela, Givenchy, MSGM, Dries von Noten, Balmain and many others.

You’d rather not wear that waist-emphasizing rope-line, but it’s for you to decide.

The larger and more contrasted the checks are, the less formal you gonna look, still being radiant and masculine. The same goes for stripe suit.

Stripes in Menswear 2017

In Spring-Summer season, stripes are in favor among both gentlemen and ladies. The stripes can be vertical or horizontal, thick or thin, multicolored or black-and-white.

Stark fact: Many SS 2017 men’s fashion shows made guys wear sandals or slides on socks. While the footwear like Oxford or Brogue shoes was supposed to be worn barefoot.

Men’s All-in-Ones in Spring and Summer 2017

The All-In-One dates back to the Middle Ages. It was a perfect attire for buffoons and jugglers –quite comfy to perform tricks/stunts in. The All-In-Ones were also very much favored by alchemists, as they believed they kept their body energy flow. We’re not quite sure whether they were burnt on a bonfire in their All-In-Ones, but what we do know is that back in 1856, Levi Strauss got to production of denim overalls for the workmen, and in XX century the All-In-Ones became a wardrobe staple not only for workmen, but also for people of all walks of life. And most certainly not only men’s wardrobe staple.

Sportswear in Men’s Collections Spring-Summer 2017

Today, any up-to-date casual holds sport style elements. Of course, most executives prefer wearing suits. While their CEOs are very much into sport-casual style, referred to as Athleisure.

Sweatpants, sweatshirt, hoodies – they most surely have them all. And they’re all stripe, checked, yellow, creamy, purple, and huge. And pretty much in 1990s style.

Backpacks in 2017 Menswear collections

This season, a collective image of a runway character is a “global” person, a traveler, an individual, who is so free in his wanderings around the world. He can mingle in the crowd, or be weird and catchy in the way he looks like. And he is wearing a backpack.

Oh, and bucket hats, sun hats, and caps are going to be in, too. We decided not to specify them as a trend and have a hope that these looks will suffice.

Jeans and Denim Pieces in SS 2017 Meanswear Collections

Jeans, as well as denim shirts, and denim bomber jackets featured many collections. The matter is that denim is a perennial classic, which is never out of fashion.
